2015 Friends of Diversity Logo

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Hampton Roads (AFP-HR) Chapter was founded in July of 2001 to provide professional education, career development and growth of fundraising professionals in the region while promoting high ethical standards and collegiality for those in the fundraising profession.

The AFP-HR Chapter is committed to improving diversity in our profession.  The AFP-HR’s diversity mission is as follows:

“Diversity is the seeking and achieving of a broad representation of experiences, perspectives, opinions and cultures within the Hampton Roads community.   Inclusiveness is an essential source of vitality and strength for the effective pursuit of an organization’s mission.”

The AFP-HR Chapter offers one (1) annual scholarship to attend the luncheon meetings for a member of the non-profit community who is:

  • A fundraising professional who self identifies as coming from an eligible diverse community as defined by AFP (African-American, Asian, Faith-based, LGBTQ, Hispanic, Jewish or Rural), or
  • A fundraising professional or fundraising executive director employed by an eligible AFP diverse community where 50% or more staff members are from that diverse community, or
  • An employee for a nonprofit organization that serves a 50% or more eligible AFP diverse community client base.

The AFP-HR meetings are held on a monthly basis on the second Tuesday of each month at the Town Center City Club (222 Central Park Avenue #230, Virginia Beach, VA  23462).

The scholarship covers the monthly registration fee (including lunch) to attend the monthly meeting during the first year. If all requirements are met the scholarship will then cover a one year AFP membership.

The awardee will be required to attend 70% of the monthly meetings and actively participate on a committee to be eligible for one (1) year membership.

Applicants must be a fundraising professional who self identifies as coming from an eligible diverse community as defined by AFP (African-American, Asian, Faith-based, LGBTQ, Hispanic, Jewish or Rural), a fundraising professional or fundraising executive director employed by an eligible AFP diverse community where 50% or more staff members are from that diverse community or an employee for a nonprofit organization that serves a 50% or more eligible AFP diverse community client base. Membership in AFP is not required of applicants.  Winner may not transfer award to another recipient.  Recipient is encouraged to join AFP after the scholarship expires and become active in an AFP-HR committee.
