2017 Diversity Scholarship for the AFP International Conference
The AFP-HR Chapter is committed to improving diversity in our professional. The AFP-HR’s diversity missions is as follows:
“Diversity is the seeking and achieving of a broad representation of experiences, perspectives, opinions and cultures within the Hampton Roads community. Inclusiveness is an essential source of vitality and strength for the effective pursuit of an organization’s mission.”
The Hampton Roads Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals offers a scholarship to the International Conference on Fundraising for a member of the non-profit community who is one of the following:
- A fundraising professional who self identifies as coming from an eligible diverse community as defined by AFP (African-American, Asian, Faith-based, LGBT, Hispanic, Jewish or Rural), or
- A fundraising professional or fundraising executive director employed by an eligible AFP diverse community where 50% or more staff members are from that diverse community, or
- An employee for a nonprofit organization that serves a 50% or more eligible AFP diverse community client base.
The AFP International Fundraising Conference is held each spring and brings more than 4,000 fundraising professionals together to discuss, teach, and learn about new development issues. It offers more than 150 educational sessions designed to serve the development needs of participants from entry level to highly experienced. The Conference exhibit hall features over 300 vendors.
The 2017 conference is being held April 30 – May 2, 2017 in San Francisco, CA.
The scholarship covers registration and expenses up to $1,500.
Applicants must have a current AFP Hampton Roads membership in good standing. Candidate must be currently employed by a non-profit and have worked in the development profession for at least three years. Candidate has never attended an AFP (or NSFRE) International Conference on Fundraising as a registered participant (unless as a member of the Conference Host Committee). Candidate is responsible for making all travel and lodging arrangements and serve on an AFP-HR committee for one year. Candidate also will complete and return an Evaluation Form about his or her experience to the Scholarship Committee. Winner may not transfer award to another person.
