Welcome to the AFP Hampton Roads Chapter website!  We are committed to supporting development professionals throughout Hampton Roads.  In our local chapter we have over 100 active AFP members who serve as development directors, fundraising consultants, grant writers, volunteer fundraisers, foundation executives, and other individuals dedicated to fundraising and philanthropy.  We welcome professionals at all career levels from organizations of all sizes.  At regular meetings of our chapter, members build relationships and learn best practices from other skilled nonprofit leaders.

AFP Hampton Roads Chapter has regularly scheduled lunch meetings, the third Tuesday of the month, featuring local speakers and topics relevant to our everyday work.  Your chapter also offers educational and networking opportunities such as the National Philanthropy Day luncheon and conference.  Check out the Chapter calendar for a schedule of what's happening and where.

Cancellation of Philanthropy Day in Hampton Roads

Dear AFP-HR Registrants of Philanthropy in Hampton Roads,

 

On November 17, an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors convened to consider options for 2009 National Philanthropy Day which was a victim of last week's nor’easter. 

The Board evaluated options that ranged from doing all, portions or none of the original 2009 NPD program.   The issue of timing was also discussed, particularly in light of the upcoming holiday season.

Many factors played against rescheduling the event.  In the end, it was concluded that professional fundraisers face too many demands on their time in the final six weeks of the year to effectively recreate this event and guarantee the first rate experience you all deserve.  Too many days will be lost to holidays and too many of us already have other events scheduled.  We are an organization of volunteers and that entails some limitations, no matter how dedicated we may be.  

Thus, with heavy hearts, we were compelled to cancel National Philanthropy Day for 2009.

This does not alter the fact that the NPD co-chairs Mary Kate Andris and Debbie Eliason did a remarkable and impressive and stellar job of guiding this event to what would have been its most successful year ever.  They and their committee are to be congratulated and have earned the gratitude of every development professional in the Hampton Roads region.  Thank you!!

The AFP-HR Chapter spent money on this event and will suffer a financial loss, the full extent of which is not yet known.  If you already paid your registration fee, we hope you will consider that fee a contribution to the support of the fundraising profession in our region.  Everything our chapter does is to serve our fellow fundraisers.  However, if you require a refund, we understand and will issue a refund to you or your organization.  Email Chapter Administrator Teri Commander at info@afp-hr.org
